In version 5.2 of the insanely popular mobile drawing and illustration app Procreate, the developers released the ability to paint directly on 3D objects. Through the “what’s new” menu option in Procreate you can download a soda can, roller skate, surfboard and skateboard to paint on.  None of those things, except the skateboard, suited my fancy so I made my own 3D objects to paint on and will share them here for your virtual toy making pursuits.

Funko DIY Procreate Object
Funko PoP DIY - Procreate 3D Paintable Object
  1. To start painting on this Funko Pop DIY object download the .zip file and extract its files to a folder of your choosing.
  2. Open Procreate and head to the Gallery view, this is the view that shows all your projects.
  3. From your gallery view choose the import option in the upper left hand area.  Navigate to the folder where you unzipped the files and choose the only one that should be choosable, the material files should be greyed out. The choosable file is the .obj file and is the one Procreate is looking for.
  4. Import that file and then open the project.
  5. Select the layers button once inside your Procreate project. You will see a Funko_DIY_Ar_funko… layer, below that layer is a Base Layer. On the base layer there is a 3D cube icon next to the “N”.
  6. Select the 3D cube icon on the Base Layer and then choose the Color sub layer.
  7. Start painting.
